Profile

As well as a Bachelors Degree in Nutrition, I have a Master of Science degree in Marital and Family Therapy awarded from Loma Linda University in 1999.

I am a Registered Psychologist, which means I have additional supervised experience and have passed written and oral exams. I value lifelong learning by continuing my education with various seminars including training in EMDR and DNMS to treat childhood trauma. I have twelve years’ experience in counselling with individuals, couples and families.

As well as professional experience, I draw on my personal and life experience in my counselling.

I feel privileged to walk alongside people in a personal way.

Practice Principles:

I believe in facilitating the healing of the whole person; mind, body, and spirit in the context of one's history and relationships.

People do not intentionally set out to hurt themselves and others. We all learn both positive and negative patterns in our childhood which set a template for future action.

Change happens by becoming aware of and practising a new template or story. Most wounds in life come from our relationships. In the same way, healing comes from positive and nurturing relationships. People do the best they can to cope and survive. Everyone is resilient and has hidden strengths that can be used to heal themselves. Development and learning is lifelong, and it is never too late to change.

By providing a safe and accepting atmosphere for you to mindfully understand your life, build on your strengths, and make successful plans for the future; together we collaborate to achieve manageable goals.

Your part is to be an informed client by asking questions, giving feedback, being committed to the change process, and being willing to explore yourself.

My standards of practice and ethics are governed by the Psychology Association of Alberta’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. I have training for resolving childhood trauma with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and the Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS.)
